Robots are more than machines or tools, robots are the future of humanity, a future full of infinite possibilities thanks to technological evolution. If you are a lover of the world of robots, this is your website.

But what are robots?

By definition, a robot is a programmable machine with the ability to manipulate objects and perform various complex operations reserved only for humans. These can be both physical and virtual, for example, software.

The future of humanity depends on progress in the field of robotics

Some, like AI, are able to simulate thoughts and ideas, but in reality they only follow guidelines dictated by humans. Even so, artificial intelligence evolves with each passing year, allowing for the creation of more complex and sophisticated robots.

Types of robots and models 🤖

Robots have different “shapes, sizes and colors”, and are programmed to perform from one to several tasks in which their functions will be determined by their inventor. From simple tasks in the home, to the execution of complex jobs, are some of the activities in which robots can perform.

There are countless types of robots, each specialized in a specific and concrete task:

  • Industrial robots are the most common. Although it may not seem so, it is estimated that 70% of the physical robots in the world are of this type, and they do not stop manufacturing them. This is due to their massive use in the factories of last technology, where they are used to make vehicles, electronic devices, heavy machinery, etc…
  • Although without a doubt the most famous are the so-called kitchen robots. These have made life easier in the domestic environment, especially for those of us who are not good at cooking.
  • Nor should we forget the cleaning robots, whether robots vacuum cleaners, glass cleaners, scrubbers, etc … There are even those who clean pool bottoms.
  • Flying robots, or drones, have become very popular lately. These are used for almost everything. Recording, surveillance, tracking, and even carrying light objects from one place to another.
  • We cannot forget virtual software, which are also robots, although not physical. These programs control virtually everything in our daily lives, from cell phones and televisions to satellites and spacecraft. There are even virtual applications for cars.
  • The typical android robot or humanoid from science fiction movies is also becoming popular. Although most of them are still being tested all over the world, they are already being used in some shopping malls and airports in countries such as Japan and China.
  • There are many more types: for family and home, toy robots, medical, construction, lawn mower, aquatic, space, military, sexual, etc… Practically everyone you can imagine, that’s why they seem so important to humanity.

Classes of robots according to their work

Robots are considered by people mostly as artifacts or objects. There are many kinds of robots, some can perform accompanying work next to the man to be used as tools.

Or to assign them specific functions that they can do alone in order to thoroughly evaluate their efficiency in certain tasks.

home robots

One of the areas where robots are most often used is in homes due to the arduous housework that is very exhausting for housewives.

They are also programmed to perform mechanical and architectural activities in the various jobs where the man works as a professional. For this reason, scientists strive daily to improve them in such a way that their appearance, efficiency and function can resemble those of human beings.

For this reason scientists agree on the insertion of robots as tools of useful work in society. Because they represent a significant advance in improving the quality of life of human beings.

History of robots, which was the first? 🤖

It’s hard to date the first robot created by humans. But we know of very old gadgets that, being automated or semi-automated, could be considered as such.

The first known are the clocks of the Renaissance cathedrals of the 15th century, and later the music boxes of the 17th and 18th centuries.

But the first robot in history as we know them today was Elektro, created by engineer Joseph Barnett in 1939. He was able to make 30 different movements and pronounce about 700 words.

Almost a century later, in 2000, Asimo (named after Asimov) would arrive, a humanoid robot created by the Japanese company Honda. He was able to walk, run, go down stairs, and even play football. He could also engage in simple sign language conversations with humans.

Robotics in the modern world

As science advances, so do robots as they increasingly resemble living life forms on Earth. From small insects to being able to reach their great goal which is to resemble man, both on a rational level by having the ability to think for themselves, and by their physiology as far as their physical structure is concerned.

The reasons why it is intended to create man in a robotic version are to replace those activities in which his life may be in danger. This is intended to reduce the risk that can often be run in work like this.

worker robots

The big companies, seeing the technological advances, want to be part of them, and many invest money in the materials needed to create these advanced machines. Not only to be part of the modern world but also to reduce the high labor costs of their workers by replacing them with robots that perform their functions.

These models of robots may resemble people as artificial life forms known as androids. Because they are creatures that can be confused with humans by having the ability to “think for themselves, solve problems, and be independent.

Asimov’s Robotics Laws 👨

By putting robots to interact with individuals in society, certain barriers can be created.

First of all, there can be problems between both parties because they do not know how to live in the same environment. And secondly, we do not know how to react to these possible situations without causing harm to anyone involved.

This is where the most important author of the known stories of robots such as Isaac Asimov (1920 – 1992) intervenes. Asimov created a series of precise instructions that propose to bring order to this robotic technology of AI by creating “three laws of robotics”, which everyone must always keep in mind:

⦁ No robot will cause harm to any human being, nor allow them to be harmed by their respective actions.

⦁ All robots will obey orders given by human beings, unless those orders conflict with the first law.

⦁ In all circumstances all robots must protect themselves, as long as such protection does not conflict with either of the first two laws.

The Future of Robotic Technology

Robotic science, or dry robotics, is the branch of engineering that is responsible for the study and advancement of robots, and therefore, the one that most interests us.

We have talked about the simplest, but now we have to show you the complexes. The ones you will see in a few decades from now walking quietly through the streets of the whole world.

Today modern robotics has helped us in many tasks, but they are nothing compared to the ones they performed in just a couple of decades. In the imminent future will begin to supplant many jobs so far only possible to do by humans.

Experts agree that one of the first will be the truck drivers. There are already autonomous cars like the Tesla, and although they still need a driver, very soon they will no longer need one.

Another job that will supplant us will be that of cooks and waiters. As if Thermomix were not enough, now you will also be served food in your favorite bar in about 20 years.

So far, Sophia is the most advanced robot in the world, being able to recognize faces and have a conversation very similar to what humans have (in fact Sophia had a conversation with Will Smith). So they will also be able to care for elderly and sick people in hospitals and nursing homes.

Nor to forget about space robots. These are very useful for NASA and other space exploration agencies around the world. We are not only talking about space satellites, but also about robots and exploration probes that go to different planets of our solar system to study them in the field.

The most famous of all is undoubtedly the Curiosity, a robot that has been researching this red planet for several years on Mars. Human beings may not yet have reached Mars, but the robots have already done so.

The Curiosity Mars Rover continues to investigate Mars in our absence.

To conclude, it can be said that despite the advances in science, robots still do not have the analytical capacity that allows them to be autonomous in making decisions. So they are still very far from reaching the human being in complexity and intelligence.
